All About ME

Hello, I'm Chau Cha Ying.
I am a designer.

Who am I.
I'm a 20-years-old girl, who studying Bachelor of Creative Multimedia (Honours) in Multimedia Design in Tunku Abdul Rahman University College.

After two years of learning experiences in my diploma life, I believes that I have a quite good skills in designing and developing a website. But... I will not stop my learning steps because I knew that there are still a long way to go for creating a successful website.

Other than website designing and developing, I also have major skills in graphics design, interface design, editorial design, vector design, digital painting, motion graphics, 2D animation, cinematography, video editing and 3D modelling.

As a designer, I always keeps my deep interest of exploring and learning new things from everywhere. I enjoy my life as a designer and I believes that every awesome design outputs are came from the designers who enjoyed with the process.

The e-portfolio blog site.

At the beginning of the semester, we have asked to prepared our reflective e-portfolio for the course Web Programming by the lecturer, Mr. Yong Fen Yu. Through out the semester, I had recorded down everything I learned in this course into my notebook. Besides that, I also had copied down every folders I done in the practical classes.

Then, I started to prepare this reflective e-portfolio in blog. I had selected blogger.com as the blog site. This is because I was used to be writing blogs in this blogger.com since the year of 2008. With my 6 years experience as a blogger, I was quite expert in creating a blog.

I had tried out different blog sites, but most of them are quite disappointing me. Unlike other blog sites, blogger.com is more user friendly because it is very easy to set up. Other than that, the navigation bars for settings are well-organised, easy to understand and visible. Besides that, there are a lot of customization options for creating the designs and layouts of the blog. Due to I have some basic knowledge about web development, I can choose to change the html and css of the blog or use back their original design options.

The Web Programming Course

A new journey of Website Development
Course Code: BHMD2224 WEB PROGRAMMING
Lecturer: Mr. Yong Fen Yu

This is the third website course which I had gone through since my diploma life. Through this course, I had learned about how to create a database-driven website.  PHP, database, localhost, table, server, SQL, phpmyadmin, etc. are some common terms which used in this course.

HTML5 and CSS3.
At the beginning of the semester, the lecturer has introduced us about html5. The new features of html which offers to us, were made our life more easier. The html5 layout structure elements are easy to understand and easy to apply. Other than that, the lecturer also introduced CSS3 to us.

The Individual Assignment 1 is about propose and develop a website, by choosing a theme from three of the selections given. I had chosen travel agency website as my theme. After that, I came out with the idea of creating a honeymoon travelling website. I started to plan and develop the website. As a result, I had done a responsive website successfully and I'm able to submit it on time.

Database-driven Website.
The second part of the course is all about database. I found that everything about database was totally new for us. At the beginning, I felt lost because of the complicated structures and steps. In the practical class, I had tried my best to catch up the steps. Although sometimes I did made mistakes and it make me slowed down, but luckily every time I'm also able to done it by the end of the class.

For this part of learning, we had been tasked to develop a dynamic database-driven website. Since it was a group project, my group mates and I were able to share our knowledge with each others. Although it was a big challenges for us, but we are able to faced it and done the website before the due date.

Reflective e-portfolio.
The Individual Assignment 2 is about creating a reflective e-portfolio for this course.

Reflection on the Learning & Experience

Web Programming is one of the course in this semester. In this subject, we are required to form a group of 3-4 people among the course mates to do create a group project. The project is about to create a dynamic database-drive website. Functionality of the website is always placed first in this project. At the beginning, we found that it was not an easy task for us because we do not have enough knowledges and skills. What we learned in the class are separated skills and we have to combine every skills by our own, in order to create a proper website. At the end, my team was able to complete the task satisfactory.

.   Situation
The experience took place at Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, KL branch, within
the context of a group project between the coursemates in the bachelor degree. This
project was undertaken as part of Web Programming Course(BHMD2224). In the project, I
was team with a male and female, which both of them are hardworking-type students. We
was given around one month to do the project.

.    Task
In our group, the task in the experience is the project itself. In the project, we have to create
database-driven website based on what we had learned in the class. It was a big
challenges for us because the knowledge we gained were parts by parts.  We  felt
unsure on he proper step to create the whole thing. This is beacuses because what we
learned were all separated skills. Other than that, my social life skills havbecouse it was
confused when trying to combine every knowledge together.

.    Action
After organising a team meeting, we all agreed that the action was doing a mock-up website
before developing the real one. This action is about we try to build a worked website
without bothering about the design.

.    Result
The action resulted in contributed to the satisfactory completion of the project on time. The
action did made the difference on the quality of the project. Through the many times of trial
and-error of the action, we did realised that how troublesome it will be if we straight do the
real website.

Learnt
After the assignment, I have learned the skills of creating a database-driven website.
Besides that, from the experience, I have gained a deeper understanding of the
importances of planning before doing. We should prepared well so that we can decrease
the chances of making mistakes.

Creating e-Portfolio

Individual assignment 2 is about creating a reflective e-portfolio for the web programming course in a blog site we selected ourselves.

The Challenges

In the process of creating this e-portfolio, I had faced some challenges.

First of all, I already used to be writing blog in a casual way, with the casual languages for many years. Before this assignment, blog is a place where I wrote diary as a sharing with my happiness moments. However, this reflective e-portfolio is about to be serious and official. This end up with I have to try my best to change the style I used to be, and it takes time for myself to suit for.

Secondly, I have faced the challenge about the time spent of creating this e-portfolio. We have to done all the assignments and went all of the classes in order to have contents to write for. We cannot done the portfolio simply before the whole learning process end. This makes me have to keep the empty part of the reflective e-portfolio until the last week only can be completed.

Lastly, the challenge I faced is I have to summarise everything about this web programming course and write it into few articles. I need to have a clear mindset about what I am going to write, so that it wont be messy. But since it was a very long term of learning experience, I have to recall back everything and this makes me felt so difficult.

So, I tried my best to find out the ways to overcome these challenges. I will write about how do I overcome these challenges in the next blog.

Overcome the Challenges

Although there are challenges and problems in the process of creating this e-portfolio, I still managed to overcome it and complete the task given on time.

For the first challenge, I had do research on how others people write their reflective e-portfolio. I learned from their e-portfolio and applied it to my e-portfolio. Although I have references, I did not copy their articles because. As a result I do a lot of researches, I was able to done the e-portfolio with 100% my own words and own feelings.

For the second challenge, I have to plan my time wisely. I wrote the parts of "self introduction" and "why I choose the blog site" first, although it was not the last week. These two parts are not really related to the course, so I can write it first to save time.

For the last challenge, I have wrote down what I learned from every classes in my notebook. This made me more easier to recall back what I had learned although it is week 13 now. Through the notes, I am able to summarise everything easily.
